PCanywhere 12.5.5 SP4 (1086) Problems requiring T.S. assistance.

I have been going insane with the PCanywhere 12.5.5 SP4 (1086) Retail Box Host & Remote version allowing connectivity after upgrading. 

I always shut-down the HOST first, then perform the upgrade, preserving all existing data.

Most systems I have had to UNINSTALL the product completely, then REINSTALL and recreate all of the hosts and remotes manually all over again.

At first I thought there was a problem with USERNAME or PASSWORD length, but the real problem appears to be after the machine is rebooted. It will connect initially after installation, but once the machine reboots, it won't allow access again.  There must be something unexpected going on  in the installer with regards to the encryption key.

FOUND A BUG:    There is definitely a bug (Windows 7 x86 or x64) that if I check the LAUNCH WITH WINDOWS box, after the machine has been restarted after installation, the machine will hang forever, requiring either a task manager shutdown or reboot to recover.

 

I have also found on forums/knowledgebase searches, two file fixes and one registry fix, but would love clarity as to what these fix and what they do:

File AWIO.DLL  version 12.5.5.1201   copied to PCanywhere directory

File AWTERM32.DLL  version 12.5.5.1200  copied to PCanywhere directory

Registry Fix:

    32bit:       HKLM\SOFTWARE \Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\Remote Control

    64bit:       HKLM\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\Remote Control  

    Add DWORD:     NonPCAHostTimeout     and set to decimal value of:     45          (default value is 15)

These don't appear to have fixed MY problems, and the only fix I can find is total removal and reinstallation.

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Please note: Installation on all sides is this new version (no older copies).  Our configurations are semi-complicated,  with non-standard Host Ports 2000-64000, and the following Security Options are turned off (unchecked):
     Prompt when receiving a remote TCP/IP session request,
     Prompt to confirm connection,
     Blank PC screen after connection,
     Secure workstation,
     Disconnect if inactive,
     and the Encryption is set to the new AES256 standard (by default).

   Windows firewall has an assigned INBOUND port rule for the specific PCaw port, and routers are designed to port-forward specific ports to specific machines based upon MAC-to-IP address assignments.

Am I missing an update (I ran Live Update from all machines with everything showing up-to-date) ?  Most machines are running Avast antivirus program, could this be interfering with the installation (without notification) as everything appears to be working correctly ?

Running two versions of pcAnywhere

I need a solution

We have a number of clients that are still running pcAnywhere 11.x and 12.1, but some are now starting to move to 12.5 SP4. We'll get them all there eventually, but in the meantime, is it possible to have two versions of pcAnywhere (12.1 and 12.5) running side-by-side, so we can access both levels of hosts?

Cannot connect to Class C broadcast addresses in a Class A network

Today a customer reported a really strange issue.

His helpdesk guys showed him a screenshot of a pcA Quick Connect window which displays some clients from a class C network. The strange thing about that is that they dont't have a class C network.

They use 10.0.0.0 addresses and a 255.255.248.0 subnet mask.

So there is a range 10.49.88.1 - 10.49.95.254 with 10.49.88.0 as network address and 10.49.95.255 as broadcast address.

One client has got the address 10.49.90.255 from DHCP. When the helpdesk guy tried to connect to that client the address has been recognised as class C broadcast address and therefore a selection of all active hosts in that class C range is displayed. The same happens even if you try to connect to the actual broadcast address.

So doesn't pcAnywhere respect subnet masks!?

PCAnywhere 12.5 (lastest) does not support Windows7 64 bit.  Symantec does not state that...forces worthless upgrades.

I need a solution

Trying to upgrade my 12.5 pcanywhere to 12.5 sp4.  Follow instructions but when i insert my cd, no upgrade to sp4 shows up as per instructions.  I am confused as to how to perform this upgrade.  Does this upgrade cost me additional money to make my existing software work?  am I missing something??

Been using 12.5 for a number of years and suddenly the host stops or disappears from the tray????  restart and it works ok for my remote but stops again? Have found somewhere on web that this is a result of a Symantec source code release and now I must add the sp4 patch.

Has anyone figured out how to export/import groups of CHF files? Figuring this out is the last obstacle to my upgrading to SP4.

I had a recent conversation with an IT manager at another company about the pcAnywhere.  He claims thast pcAnywhere can work only within a single network, and it can't reach any computer outside of such network.   For example, I won't be able to reach any of his computers and he has no idea if there are any firewall settings that could help to let the pcAnywhere through.  According to him only the TeamViewer or Webex will be able to connect.  Is he right?

Does anyone know if a Remote client of pcAnywhere Solutions v12.6.7 can connect to a pcAnywhere Host v12.5 SP4 (12.5.5.1086)?

That would be an Altiris application of pcAnywhere connecting to the Retail or Box version of pcAnywhere.

We use PC Anywhere to access our automation systems remotely. Currently our techs use PC Anywhere to access our system via laptops but we would like to upgrade to tablets. Which tablets, and more specifically what specs should we be looking for in a tablet? Suggestions appreciated...

Can't Find Serial Number for pcAnywhere 12.5

I need a solution

I checked the box, manual, disk, installed software Help, and cannot find the serial number.  Where is this located?

Once it is found, and I have version 12.5.0 Build 442, can I enter that serial number in fileconnect.symantec.com to download SP4?

Is SP4 the same as version 12.5.5 Build 1086?  If so, why introduce another descriptor SP4, that does not appear anywhere else?  Why didn't they just call it Build 1086 or 12.5.5?

Cannot find Mac OS X installer for pcAnywhere 12.5

I need a solution

I just purchased pcAnywhere, and cannot find the Mac OS X installer on the download.  It only has the Windows software.  I've tried to create a new support case, but keep getting Tomcat exception: "The server encountered an internal error () that prevented it from fulfilling this request."

Where is the Mac OS X installer?  I had been using pcAnywhere 12.0 with the Mac just fine, but since upgrading the Mac to an Intel machine, pcAnywhere 12.0 will not run.  

Does anyone have a download link or something to pcAnywhere 12.5 for OS X?

pcAnywhere Changing Security Policies

I need a solution

I have always purchased and installed pcanywhere on computers being used on my automation plant network without any issue. Recently we added a new 2008 server that we are in the process of making our new domain controller for 20 workstations. While in this process we found that if we remote desktop into a workstation then disconnect from it, it does not release the host waiting for next caller. You must reboot the machine running host before reconnecting to it, or stop and start the service and restart the host. Versions of pcanywhere installed are 10.5 to 12.5.1, we are upgrading equipment and software gradually. We are wondering if something in the 2008 domain is changing security policies, but some of these machines have not been joined to the new domain yet. They are however on the same LAN with the new server. Any help would certainly be appreciated, Thanks

Bonjour,

J'utilise aujourd'hui Symantec PCAnywhere 15.5.5 (buid 1086) et je voudrais à partir de Symantec Packager me créer mon propre msi.

Aucun pb jusque là. J'y inclus les fichiers bhf et cif (configuré avec la sécurité souhaitée) du poste qui génère le package.

A la fin de l'installation sur mon poste client, mes fichiers .bhf et .cif ne sont pas valide. Pourquoi ?

Comment faire ?

Recently we few nodes get this pop up instead of connecting to pcA agent on the host machine. The host machine we are trying to connect to does not show up in the list either. Has anyone ever seen this or have an idea what is causing it?

What I hope to do and am wondering if it is possible: when connecting or disconnecting, there is no pop up baloon alerting the user I have connected or disconnected.  I tried hiding the host tray icon which does vanish, but when I connected, it appears alerting the user.

Is it possible to not change the background (or wallpaper) when connecting?  I tried some registry entries that did not do what I wanted, but any advice is appreciated.

PcAnywhere plugin replacing the pca anywhere "out of the box" console

Hello,
 

Our current environment is running so that our administrators only are using local console installation.

PcAnywhere Console (Out of the box product)12.5.BUILD 8096

PcAnywhere agent/plugin 12.6.8096

The problem we are having is that the pca plugin installation/upgrade (policy) is replacing the out of box product installation. We could remove the admin computers from agent installation policy filter which would prevent this from happening but the thing is that we have around 100 admins constantly changing computers so maintaining the list is near impossible.

Anyone have any ideas ?

Symantec pcAnywhere 12.5.5 build 1206 is the latest available build. pcAnywhere 12.5.5 build 1206 is to be applied to a machine with pcAnywhere 12.5 sp4 (Build 1086) already installed.

How to run live update from with in pcAnywhere

1. Open the full pcAnywhere program. 
2. Navigate to the Help menu then About Symantec pcAnywhere
3. Confirm what the current version and build number,  Click OK
4. Navigate to the Help menu then LiveUpdate...
5. From with in the Live update window click Start
6. Click OK when done

Once live update is complete you may be prompted to reboot.  If prompted please reboot as soon as possible after the reboot is completed perform the above steps again until there are no updates available

can't connect with dialup

I need a solution

Hi,

I'm looking for some trouble-shooting suggestions. Although I have no problem connecting to pcAnywhere 12.5 remotes via  IP, I am unable (except for one) to connect to them via dialup. The modems handshake, but then there's no video, and I get the dialog "The selected computer is not responding. Connection cannot be made." In each case, besides being able to connect via IP directly over the internet, I also can connect via IP if I first use dialup netorking to connect to the server (Server 2003/SP2) VPN. But I simply can't get a connection via pcAnywhere directly. The servers to which I am trying to connect are equipped with a variety of brand-name modems (3Com, USR, Zoom, Intel). All phone lines are standalone analog lines (i.e. no fax or other equipmen on those lines).

I have eliminated a line problem on my end because there is one server, equipped to the others, to which I CAN consistently connect via direct dialup.

I have checked and rechecked the settings and all remotes are set similarly.

I'll be happy to look and relook at anything anyone suggests.

Unable to connect using remote connection, works fine if I use the quick connect to the same pc's????
