I need a solution

Hi,

I've been using pcAnywhere for years. Used it to remote into cleints PC's and Servers. Currently using version 12.5.5 build 1208.

pcAnywhere worked flawlessly with Windows XP. Never had an issue.

Since Windows 7 has come out, there have been issues with the Host screen display looking scambled or the host system becoming unresponsive. I don't have any issues getting connected, but soemtimes I can only work for a few minutes before the Host becomes unresponsive and I have to end the session and then reconnect. Ot the Host screen is unreadable because it is scrambled.

I have gone through the suppoert sites and applied the suggestions

1. Disabled the Mirror Driver.

2. Disabled Aero Peek

3. Tweak the refresh rate when not using the Mirror Driver.

Basically I applied these Reg hacks:

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\DWM]
"EnableAeroPeek"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\Host]
"UseEchoDriver"=dword:00000001
"ActiveWindowScanning"=dword:00000001

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\awecho]
"Start"=dword:00000004

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\services\awecho\Device0]
"MirrorDriver"=dword:00000001

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

pcAnywhere works better but still not flawlessly.

1st, is there something that I did that was wrong?

2nd, Is there anything else that can be done to help fix the problem?

Thanks.

Any ideas please? I am running PCAnywhere version 12.5.5 Build 1086.

Thanks.

Reinstall pcAnywhere from SMP 7.5

I need a solution

We recently upgraded to NS 7.5 and it wants to push a sub agent update for pcAnywhere.  We've found that the actual software version of anywhere doesn't change from 12.5.4.8211.  Only the Plugin dll changes from 12.6.8209 to 12.6.8556

New
Programs and Features version 12.5.4.8211
Plugin 12.6.8556

Old
Programs and Features 12.5.4.8211
Plugin 12.6.8209

In any case, some of our installs of pcAnywhere are missing the Host service that actually listens for an incoming connection.  As the software version that controls this doesn't change, the plugin upgrade doesn't fix the missing service.  I should also mention that we are going from a standard install to a host only install for our clients.  Perhaps that is causing an issue.

If I remove pcAnywhere from programs and features, reboot, and then reinstall it using Symantec_pcA_AutoStart_NopcAQuickConnect_Host.exe /qn then the host service gets reinstalled properly.  However, NS never pushes client settings and so no user credentials work for logon.  I've tried a local admin account, in which case it doesn't problem for credentials again, but it simply exits.

So lets say that 10% of our 16,000 computers need a reinstall.  I need a method that doesn't require creating NS filters and waiting a day for it to decide it wants to install, then changing the filter to install PCA again.  We do have Altiris DS 6.9 as a tool available to assist.  I can make the reinstall happen using DS 6.9, but then need to make NS push settings.

I have PCA v12.5.5 installed on a workstation and laptop (both WIN7), I need to copy (or move) the Remotes (around 200 or so) from the workstation to the laptop.  I quickly discovered simply copying the CHF files into the laptop's C:\ProgramData\Symantec\pcAnywhere\Remotes directory doesn't work - how can I accomplish the task?  thanks!!

pcAnywhere Solution and Bomgar changes with ITMS 7.6

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

When ITMS is upgraded to version 7.6, the pcAnywhere Solution management components will be removed. New installations of ITMS version 7.6 will not include pcAnywhere. As an alternative, Symantec has partnered with Bomgar to provide an enterprise class remote access solution with integration into the console.

Please see this blog for more information:

Will ITMS 7.6 upgrade remove access to intergrated PCAnywhere?

Hi all

Just after some information.

The standalone version of PCAnywhere is EOL, the Connect FAQ page on this says that the version incorporated into ITMS 7.5 is not effected.

However, in the document covering new features and improvments in ITMS 7.6, it states Bomgar is in there to replace PCAnywhere.

I would like to know if upgrading to ITMS 7.6 will remove our access to PCAnywhere or if both remote access solutions will work side by side?

We dont want to upgrade to 7.6 and find our selves without enough remote access licences to manager our infrastructure properly

Thanks in advance for any info I can get :-)

Understand that pcanywhere had EOL.

May I know if we can propose any similar solution for Symantec?

pcA Crashing Browser After SMP 7.1 to 7.5 Upgrade

I need a solution

I enabled the pcAnywhere agent upgrade/install policies after upgrading my server from SMP 7.1 to 7.5 SP1.  However, I can't seem to get pcA working again as it continually asks for a reboot on a couple of my PCs and other workstations as well in our environment.  Furthermore it appears to crash IE in the process.

When I try to initiate a remote control session, looks like pcA is installing again as its date changes in my Win 7's Programs and Features.  Actually, not sure if it changes after I restart Windows.  All I know is that the date's current following a reboot but trying pcA again gets you the same restart prompt.  Is this perhaps a known issue and any idea how to fix it?  Thanks in advance!

Where to get PCAnywhere 12.5 build 525

I need a solution

Where/how can I get hold of build 525 of PCAnywhere 12.5? I currently have build 486.

I do not want to go to SP4 or later due to the lack of backwards compatibility. The updates to build 525 are no longer available on LiveUpdate and the relevant Symantec suport articles that would have a manual installer for this specific build have had the attachements removed.

Surely this is available from somewhere?

Hi to all

I want to know if there is any way to put a "delay" in awhost32.exe

The reason is some times the awhost32 start before the local internet connection and take some IP that is not from our domain.

I have change the value in the

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Symantec\pcAnywhere\CurrentVersion\Host]

"HostStartupDelay"=dword:000000xx to 10 to 15 even to 60 without see any difference when the host was start up

PS: If after 1 min make cancel the host and then start up again the host has the correct IP

Thanks for your time.

PcAnywhere is not working after pushdown by Altiris

I need a solution

Hi all,

In our recent technical refresh (change of notebook). The Altiris still manage to push down the pcAnywhere plug into the new user's laptop.

But problem is that, we can't remote into these new notebooks.

Previously it only prompt us for UserID and Password, but this time round it prompt us the Domain as well.

After checking, discover that :

Under pcAPluginAgentInstall.log (64 bit of OS)

MSI (s) (70:7C) [13:00:24:150]: Product: Symantec_pcAnywhere_plugin_installer_x64 -- Configuration failed.

MSI (s) (70:7C) [13:00:24:150]: Windows Installer reconfigured the product. Product Name: Symantec_pcAnywhere_plugin_installer_x64. Product Version: 12.6.1.0. Product Language: 1033. Manufacturer: Symantec. Reconfiguration success or error status: 1638.

Another version of this product is already installed. Installation of this version cannot continue. To configure or remove the existing version of this product, use Add/Remove Programs on the Control Panel.

Next,

1) pcAPolicy.xml is not installed into C:\ProgramData\Symantec\pcAnywhere\
2) Host folder got missing files like PCA.ithelp.cif, ADS.{domain}+HFALTIRIS.cif and PCA.pcadm.cif

Please advise.

Win 7 Dialup Performance

I need a solution

We currently have no other option but to connect to several machines in the field using a dialup connection that at best, connects at around 33.6k.To say performance is lacking is an understatement.

Previously, at the same location, with machines running windows XP, on the same external modems, we had much better performance.  I blame the majority of the performance issue to all of the 'eye candy' in windows 7, however we have disabled just about everything we can to save on overall bandwidth use.

The most noticable of the issues and the one i am hopeful to resolve here, and is, well, difficult to explain.  It is almost as if the images being generated and sent to the remote client are being generated faster then they are being sent and the longer the session is connected, the larger the gap between what is being done and what is being seen gets.

I will try to describe better if this is not clear enough... Just ask me to clarify

Is there a way to tell the host to purge whatever buffer or queue is being used to send the desktop imagery back the the remote client every so often? or to only transmit said imagery if there was an update to that region of the screen?  i believe something like one of these options would compensate for the lack of available bandwidth

Thanks in advance for any help

I need a solution

Good day, we are using PCAnywhere 12.5 in Windows 7 Environment. I am trying to use PCAnywhere to connect to remote PC's but I have been unsuccesful in doing so. I cannot connect to any PC with t he exception of my own PC.

I have PCAnywhere installed on my PC which is the PC I am using to administer remote clinets, what I would like to know is if PCAnywhere needs to have some type of remote client instaled on the remote PC's without having to install the entire program.

I appreciate all assistance.

Thank you,

PCAnywhere license count in SIM

Is anyone having issues with the SIM not reflecting the right amount of licenses in use for PCA?  My license query in the DB shows an accurate count but the SIM shows me maxed out.  As a result, new PCs are not getting a PCA license to use and being rejected by the server.  Any suggestions?  Seems to have started after 7.6 was installed.

possible to pca from AD PC to non AD PC?

SMC v 7.5.3153 in AD environment.

Client pcA plugin is 12.6.8556.

pcAQuickConnect on my PC is 12.5.4.8211 SP4.

I can pcA / pcAQC to any AD PC that has SMA with pcA plugin. However, we have a classroom of PC's that is not (yet) part of AD. I can initiate a pcA connection and as normal I am prompted for username, password and domain. However it does not accept my credentials (as it does when pcA to an AD PC). Is there a way to pcA from an AD PC to a non AD PC? Thank you!
