Simple pcAnywhere Question Regarding "Require User To Approve"

I need a solution

Hello,

We recently changed the pcAnywhere policy settings in our SMP 7.1 SP2 console by removing the checkmark in:

  • Require User To Approve Connection

We understand that machines must check into the SMP to get this new policy.  We would like to spot check a few machines to make sure the policy is getting out there.  Is there a way we can open the agent and view the pcAnywhere policy setting on a machine?  Another way to ask, how we can we see what polcies a machine has by using the agent/plug-in windows?

PCAnywhere 12.5 SP4 and RSA SecurID - PIN Change Issue

under SP3 and lower RC4 was available (I know this is isnt Ideal), however if we choose AES128 or 256 the PIN window for RSA SecurID will not work and we just get login failed.  Switching to RC4 128, the PIN window displayed just fine.  Now with SP4 everything but AES128/256 has been removed, thus we are back to the issue where we cannot change PINs through PCA.

Question is:  Has anyone experienced this and know of any solutions that might work with SP4?

PCAnywhere Black Screen Connection Issue

I need a solution

Hello,

I've googled some of the posts about the PCAnywhere black screen issue. I've tried several things but they haven't worked. I was hoping that someone could help me out with finding out the issue. Here is the background:

We are going through a modem. It worked one day. We were able to log in remotely using another modem. Then we rebooted the host pc. After the reboot, the host pc was unable to recognize the modem (error was something like "no modem connected"). We played around with the settings of the modem. We also removed PCAnywhere host/remote and put in PCAnywhere host (host ONLY) on the computer. Then we used the configuration wizard to create a new host. We were able to get a pcanywhere icon with a green circle on the bottom right of the screen. When we restarted, it said "pcanywhere waiting".

When we tried to get into the host computer from a remote computer via modem, we were able to connect. We put in our credentials and then a new black screen pops up. We're both on PCAnywhere 12.5 (though we're using host/remote package). The black screen is titled remote control and it is a remote session. The details session says "authenticating..." and the host says "accepting/rejecting remote control" on the bottom right. The black screen stays there and we can't see their screen.

Has anyone had problems like this? We've put our graphics on best performance and have even tried matching the resolutions (though that didn't seem to matter the first day when both were connected). Also we tried reinstalling the host through connection wizard and through "advanced controls". Do you think it is a problem with the modem or a problem with pcanywhere? We are able to dial in, but don't seem to have access to the host computer. Is it some sort of handshaking issue?

Thanks for your help.

Live Update on Win 7 - old version error

I need a solution

We've got Dell OptiPlex 7010 PC's running Win 7 - 32 bit.  We've installed pcAnywhere 12.5.1 and ran both SP2 and SP3 updates.  Live Update does not install, so I followed the previous thread with regards to downloading and installing LUSETUP.EXE 3.3.  When I run it, I receive the following error:

' A newer version of LiveUpdate exists on your system.  No changes were made to the system.'

But when we open pcAnywhere and go to Help ---> LiveUpdate....   we receive the message:

LU1802:LiveUpdate could not initialize some of all of the Windows components that it needs to run.  You may be running LiveUpdate on an unsupported version of Windows.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  This is our last hurdle before we create a Ghost image to distribute over 100 PC's.  Thank you!

I installed pcanywhere 12.5 media pack.  Software looks similar to full blown 12.5.  Installation went fine.  Then I went to configure a remote, entered IP and port settings, kept everything else at default.  !!!!Connecting to host comes up on screen for a fraction of a second then disappears?!!!!  I tried the same software on another Win 7 computer, same problem.  Tried running Windows Update, Symantec Live Update, running in compatibility mode.  Nothing has helped.

I removed the 12.5 media pack from one pc and installed the $200 full blown software.  Remote connection worked fine so it is not the computer or network I am using!  Very frustrating!  If the media pack won't work just tell me so.  Put it with the documentation that the media pack doesn't do anything!

Thanks for any ideas.

pcAnywhere printer spool files

I need a solution

I have having problems where I print to a remote printer from a host. The print job does not get deleted from the queue on the host after the job has finished printing at the remote printer.

The remote computer is running Windows XP Professional with all the latest service packs installed. The printer is an HP LaserJet M1212nf multifunction printer. It is connected to the remote computer through a USB cable.

I connect to various hosts. One of the hosts is running Windows 7. The other host is running Windows XP Professional. When I print a document residing on the host directly to the remote printer, on neither of the hosts that I mention does the print job delete from the print queue. It stays there, and I cannot delete it by opening print job by way of the icon in the system tray. It does not continually print; but it prints again each time I reboot the host computer.

I have had this printer for approximately 6 months. Before that, I had an HP LaserJet 3050 connected to the remote computer. Nothing else changed when I switched printers; the host computers were the same; and were using the same operating systems. The remote computer had the same operating system. However, with the installation of the M1212nf printer, from the very beginning the jobs did not delete from the queue.

The work-around has been to open the control panel and manually find and delete the print spool file. However, that is not the way it should work.

Hi Guys,

I would like to know if it is feasible to use SQL Server 2008 R2 SP2 Express on 1500 clients with pcAnywhere as the only component/module to be used?

No inventory, patch or software deployment. It's just pcAnywhere on a Symantec Management Platform.

Looking forward to your response.

Thank you and regards.

I need a solution

Just upgraded from 12.5.0 to 12.5.5 on A Windows 7 machine.  I've been using the same hosts/caller/IP's for years and after moving to 12.5.5, when trying to connect, a brief 'Initializing' window flashes and then I am presented with an error pop up 'Cannot connect to...'

The only time I have ever encountered an 'Initializing' window is in the old days using dial-up modem.  I have all my settings for TCP/IP connection correct.  Is therre a preference for modem or TCP/IP defaults?

Any ideas?

Host does not talk back to the Caller (but they are connected)

Problem:

We have installed ‘Symantec pcAnywhere 11.0.0’ on two Windows 7 Service Pack 1 workstations.  Both workstations are on the same local network.

Here is the problem we are having.  After we initiate a connection between the two workstations the ‘Caller’ can see everything on the ‘Host’ just fine (icons, etc.).  The problem is that, when the Caller selects different icons or clicks on the Desktop, the Caller cannot see ‘any’ results (from the mouse-clicks) on the Caller screen.  The Host computer, however, ‘does see’ results (from the mouse-clicks) being performed by the caller.  For example, if the Caller right clicks on an empty space on the Desktop, the Caller cannot see any result, but the Host can see the drop down box appear.

At times, the cursor on the Caller workstation turns into a small-fuzzy-circle, too (but not always. Sometimes it’s a pointer cursor.)

Do we need to apply a patch?  We’ve already granted ‘Full Control’ to the Caller in SETTINGS.  That didn’t help.
